Meisner Technique
"Your acting will not be good until it is only yours. That's true of music, acting, anything creative.
You work until finally nobody is acting like you." - Sanford Meisner
The Technique
Sanford Meisner, also known as “Sandy” was an American actor and acting teacher who developed one of the most respected and widely used acting techniques in the industry. His method, known as “The Meisner Technique” is a widely regarded as “the technique that works” among American actors. It is based on Meisner’s theory that “acting is living truthfully under given imaginary circumstances” whilst stimulating the imagination.
The foundation of the technique lies in the use of repetitive exercises that allow actors to establish an authentic connection with their working partner/s. Prior to developing his technique, Sandy noticed something appeared to be missing from the scene building processes he observed: often, the actors interacting within a scene had great characters and were emotionally truthful, yet they failed to bring their scenes to life. He determined that in order to bring scenes to life, a more authentic interaction between actors and their respective characters was needed.

Chase has been incredibly eye-opening. I went from no experience acting professionally, and no real understanding of acting on camera, to confidently taking on scripts and roles I would have considered impossible. In just four months I've completely changed my identity as a performer and while I get the sense I might have found that through years of practice and experience, Chase has helped me reach goals I didn't even consider and built a certain confidence in me that I sorely was lacking. Small details about acting that I hadn't ever considered come naturally to me now and I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to learn this much.

I first met actor/director Chase Lee in Seoul when I took his class on the Meisner Acting Technique. The two-week course provided me with a basic foundation that left me eager to learn more. When Chase offered an on-line course I jumped at the opportunity. Acting is a serious challenge and Chase understands that well. He is patient, sensitive and extremely generous. He guides his students in a firm yet gentle and honest manner. Each lesson builds on the next to add new tools and techniques. With Chase’s expertise, support and encouragement students learn and grow at their own pace. It is clear that Chase is a teacher who cares and I am grateful to be one of his students.

Learning from Chase Lee for me was like a gift from above. His teaching methods are unique. The actor's are pushed out of their comfort zone and he encourages us to search for emotions and answers deep within us, our minds and experiences and so much more. It can be quite challenging but at the end of the day, we grow as actors and it is worth it. Thanks to Chase I got to learn about the Meisner acting technique and will continue to do so in the future.

Chase has wisdom and experience which he is fantastic with at sharing with other people. He is great at identifying the scene, the actors role in the scene, emotions, how they got there and where they're going. His very good at nudging the actor in the right direction. Besides just acting Chase has a lot of experience in the industry and his willing to teach and share that as well.
